Undoubtedly, Shervin Boloorian’s reinterpretation of Depeche Mode’s legendary 1990 song “Enjoy The Silence” is an evolution, in both creative and artistic aspects. It’s called “Enjoy The Silence (All I Ever Wanted Version)” and it’s a great tribute to the original by incorporating Boloorian’s impressive vocals in a more vibrant context. The result is an ethereal transformation where the listener goes through a metaphoric experience from the emotions that Boloorian conveys throughout the song.

The song starts melodically with Boloorianโs voice coming through, which is soft yet deep and meshes into the already present piano. It then slowly builds up the tension that this specific cover strives to achieve. What makes this version stand out is that Boloorian has managed to change the time signature and melody of the song, allowing for much more flexibility than the original. The tone of his voice moves in a way where he almost tells a story that feels adequately more soulful than the original. This overall transformation does allow Boloorian to take more creative control, allowing him to retain Depeche Modeโs skin but present it in a much more interesting and deeper way. In collaboration with multi-GRAMMY award-winning producer Kipler Eldridge, who is very famous for performing with Sting, Boloorian was able to come up with an arrangement that is very clean as well as very natural. According to Boloorian, Eldridge provided additional gospel piano and organ texturing to his track without taking center stage and let his vocals shine over the rich, warm canvas. The production is so clear that the song transcended from being a simple cover to something markedly different, which is incredible by itself.
To Boloorian, “Enjoy The Silence” is more than a studio reproduction of a song; itโs more of an ensemble of his own story. In this cover of the artist’s song, one might notice that the artist perhaps has strong attachments to it as he mentions the song being a coping mechanism for him during depressing days. In this transformed edition, the artist does seem to focus on aspects of the song depicting healing as he mentions integrating tension between trauma and healing, which are to be mature themes in his upcoming album โUnbrokenโ. We felt that this is a more artistic cover, especially since it is an original song such as “Enjoy The Silence”, so Boloorian doesnโt need to fear making world music crossover when he makes this song specifically designed to break the boundaries of the conventional understanding of the song.
